Home Remedies for Animal Bite

Thoroughly wash the wound with cold water, once you get the bleeding under control, remove the saliva from the bitten animal by washing the wound with soap and water. Do this for five minutes.

Once the wounds are cleaned, apply a bandage over the infection with a sterile gauze pad.

To prevent swelling apply ice pack over the wound. For pain relief take pain killers. Do not give these to children, as it may lead to further complications.

For any animal bite, apply a mixture of castor oil and lime juice. Simultaneously you can have one glass of warm water mixed with honey and lime juice to alleviate pain.

Take vitamin C in the form of fresh vegetables and fruits. Juices of these vegetables and fruits are easily digested and they have the capability to fight infection, an important property while tackling animal bites.

Intake of vitamin B supplements produces antibodies that fight infection.

Use herbs like Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea), Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis ), Comfrey (Symphytum officinalis ), Calendula (Calendula officinalis ) and Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceous ) in tincture form for a five day treatment. Recommended dosage is 1 drop per pound body weight of each, either orally using a syringe or directly on to your tongue.

The puncture wounds of cats tend to heal from outside which can lead to abscesses. To avoid such problems take extra care to keep the wound open. You can wash the wound with saline solution, later add half or one drop of Calendula (Calendula officinalis) to the solution for the same purpose till it is completely healed. For internal problems have one drop of Calendula (Calendula officinalis) per 10 pound bodyweight for the external healing process.

Goldenseal tea works great as an antibiotic. It can also be applied directly on the bitten area for the benefits of its natural antibiotic properties. Avoid using it during pregnancy or if there is a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes or glaucoma. Seeking proper guidance prior to use is advised.

You can also apply antibiotic ointment to the bitten area twice daily, till it’ s completely healed.

All Natural Animal Products – Five Secret Remedies That Work

Animals, like humans, have varying needs and sensitivities. Some animals suffer from allergies, yet others have sensitive skin that does not respond well to chemical applications. For this reason, many pet owners are turning to all natural products to keep their pets happy and healthy. Some pets don’t have specific health issues, but some pet owners simply prefer using all natural products with their pets for environmental reasons.

Allergies

Food allergies account for approximately five to ten percent of allergic reactions in dogs and cats. Dogs suffering from allergic reactions can develop diarrhea and itching throughout the body. Diagnosing a food allergy can be difficult and can require trying a variety of dietary changes in order to pinpoint the problem. Food additives can sometimes be the cause of food allergies. Therefore, all natural food is the best choice for these pets.

Joint Problems

Like humans, many pets experience a breakdown of the cartilage in their joints. Pets with joint problems will hesitate about going up stairs and will have difficulty rising from a laying position. They will also sometimes have creaking joints and will be unable to run for a long distance. These problems have been commonly treated with steroids, aspirin, or anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately, these can cause side effects such as hypertension and muscular weariness. For these reasons, many pet owners are looking toward all natural products.

Supplements that contain natural steroids can be used to help keep joints healthy and strong. Several other natural ingredients are used to help with joint pain. These ingredients help build the cartilage back up and make it strong, which helps relieve pain, as well.

Fleas and Ticks

There are also many natural tick and flea remedies available. Some of these products contain cedar oil and rosemary to help kill ticks and fleas. These all natural sprays do not dry the animal’s skin and they also help sooth irritation and itching caused by ticks and fleas. Natural tick and flea products are especially helpful for pets with sensitive skin or with skin allergies as chemical products will irritate the skin. Natural tick and flea killers are also beneficial for pregnant pets, or pregnant pet owners, as the chemicals in flea and tick killers can be harmful to the unborn baby.

Common ingredients used in natural flea killers that are applied directly to the pet are eucalyptus and citronella. A well known herb from India has also been used to kill flees for centuries and is a common additive. Pyrethrums, which are derived from Chrysanthemum flowers, also help keep flees at bay. Pet owners can even make their own all natural flea powder by mixing fennel, rosemary, wormwood, yellow dock and rue together and sprinkling it on the pet.

Sodium borate can also be sprinkled on the carpet to help control ticks. Sodium borate will dry up both fleas and their larvae and is effective for up to one year after being applied to a carpet.

Emotional Problems

Certain herbs are also helpful in relieving stress, tension, and anxiety in an animal. For example, chamomile and St. John’s Wort are included in many natural stress relieving herbs. These herbs have long been well-known for their soothing properties in animals and products for pets that contain these herbs can be just as beneficial to the animals. These products also help pets cope with separation anxiety or feelings of anxiousness when around strangers or when going to the vet or when you take the dog in to get grooming done.

Oral Care and Ear Care

Many all natural breath fresheners are available for pets. Some of these fresheners contain Mojave Yucca and mint oils to freshen breath. The Yucca neutralizes the odors that cause bad breath, while the mint helps give it a fresh smell. These products are used daily to maintain fresh breath and to help keep the teeth strong.

Natural ear care products are also available. These products help remove dirt, debris, and wax from the pet’s ears. Unlike unnatural ear cleaning products, which contain ingredients such as alcohol, which can sting, these products often contain Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera helps soothe the sensitive inside of the ear.

Natural remedies are an excellent choice for pet owners who want to have a healthy pet and who want to remain environmentally conscious.

Alternative Natural Animal Nutrition/remedy From Veterinary Medicine Rids Top 400 Human Diseases and No Toxic Side Effects

What does it take to live to 100yrs and more and be healthy as well. Did you know that the top 10 human diseases were cured in animals in 1957 using only natural nutrition and it works on people too! Skeptical as I was because of the condtioning all my life that the local doctor had all the answers to the cures, that it must be impossible that veterinary medicine could more advanced about the cures to serious diseases. Impossible! Until I was forced to try it.
Will Rogers said “If you want a good doctor, get a veterinarian. Why! Animals can’t tell him whats wrong, he’s just got to know what’s wrong. Dr Joel Wallach, Veterinarian/Naturopthic doctor (nobel prize nominee) was involved in comparative medical research for 30 years and came to the conclusion that commercial animals got a better deal when it comes to health care with no harmful side-effects. The Veterinary profession has raised the art and science of preventive medicine to its highest level by eliminating cancer, arthritis, liver disease, asthma, learning disabilities, birth defects, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, dental diseases from laboratory animals, pet and farm animals. A lot of non-sense you say! Well we are human animals made from the same earthly elements and so why wouldn’t it work on humans. Because of small profit margins, animal farmers demand nutrition systems that prevent disease. No birth defects of any kind and healthy livestock. Farmers demand 100 healthy calves from 100 healthy breeding cow’s that they are feeding and expect calves to reach market or reproductive age with little or no vet fee’s. THIS BEATS WHAT WE HAVE COME TO EXPECT AS HUMANS. Just go to any zoo on a beautiful sunny day and ask the first 100 women that walk by if they have had any complicated pregnancies, children that were delivered by cesarian or children with birth defects and the results of your survey will be astounding!
Animal farmers are unwilling to pay for ceasarians or pay for symptomatic therapies because they are working on a tight budget and the government does not have MEDICARE for animals. Preventative Medicine veterinary style, is inexpensive and extremely effective in preventing the chronic diseases in animals that, if present, would make animal husbandry impossible. In America, the economic system of capitalism was allowed to take its course and the money was in finding a cheap and practical system of health care for animals, the result was preventative natural nutrition programmes.ie 90 daily essential nutrients, components which are made up of, 60 plant derived colloidal minerals,12 amino acids,3 essential fatty acids,16 vitamins which add up to the 90 essential nutrients. In other words, what are the things you need to consume every day so you can live till 100yrs and be healthy. Absurd. Really! Most of these things you can buy in your local gym or sports nutrition shop but they don’t know how to use them and the quality is not the same and its incomplete. Originally this nutrition pack was used in swine to get an extra 3 birthing years out the sows. Pigs suffer from arthritis and this regime prevented the arthritis. and the discovery was that it got rid of 400 other diseases. This natural nutrition pack was discovered in 1957 for the animal kingdom by veterinary researchers and it reverses 400 ailments in humans with no side-effects if there is no previous serious irreversible damage from toxic pharmaceuticals( liver, kidney, intestines) and substance abuse. Despite this damage, a lot of supposed abuses and genetic birth defects are managed better by these natural 90 nutrients. The pack was upgraded for human use.You can live to 75yrs. The regime is for 3 months minimum. The longer you take it, the more reversal of the ailments.
In contrast to the animal health systems, our human health care systems are heavily supported by the government, clinical care as well as research, via legislation, eg medicare. It is unfortunate that the mindset in human medicine is in treating the symptoms (and not the root cause), with patented synthetic pharmaceuticals that have harmful side-effects. Doctors, Pharma people, have a nice cartel thats protected by Gov’t laws. Just google the doctors prescription medicine that he’s given you and search the side-effects. Really scary findings. If it was any other industry, they’d be prosecuted for selling this stuff. Google search the individual components of the 90 essential nutrients. Marjority of pharmceuticals are patented and it is a sickness for profit industry. Medicine credo should be first “Do no harm”. This has produced a health care system that if union members learned that management and union stewards had reached such an agreement, they would wryly call it a sweetheart deal and call for instant workers strike.
Medical  scientists clone sheep, map gene nomes, swap chromosomes and genes in mammals and plants, grow a human liver inside a pig, etc, frankenstein stuff, men on the moon. But can’t cure the top 10 diseases without transplant/surgery and nasty toxic drugs. Seems odd, and Why not, you say, when Vets can do it.
The orthodox medical system is an artifical system that depends on our governments via the corrupt Codex Alimenarius Commitee in the background, globally, masquerading as protectors against those alternative health nuts to survive. If it were left to the people , they will always choose a less formidable and less complex, efficient, health care system. Under the protective and loving wing of the government, orthodox medicine has flourished as a house of cards. They will badmouth alternative medicine because it is better and it is a threat to their hip pocket. You cannot patent the 90 essential nutrients and monopolise it . They would like to ban them then legally then monopolise them. If the people were aware of the deaths as a result of polypharmacy, they would be like me, and not have anything to do with synthetic toxic pharmaceuticals.
It is of interest that the 10,000 year old system of Tradtional Chinese Medicine only paid the doctor when you were healed and stopped paying him when you became ill- this ancient system combined with the veterinary natural medicine mindset would be an ideal medical system.
I am a 54yr old that use to suffer when I was 48yrs of age from Arthritis, Asthma,High blood pressure, Hemorhoids, a flu like condtion for 3 years(4 types of anti-biotics didn’t help) constant diahorea. Low back pain, Hands would go numb 3 times a night in bed if my wrists were bent in my sleep, Heat stress headache-could’nt stay out in the sun for long, and could not work physically for long as I would get this headache and sweat profusely. In this condition, I could not bend down to pick something up off the floor without pain/pressure in my head. Had to take a nap to sleep it off or take a pain killer which I never felt good about. Never liked those warning labels on medicine bottles. I had silvery white hair which I absolutely hated. Couldn’t remember peoples’ names the next day. Bad memory. Had bad B.O. Had terible bad breath, arms weren’t long enough for reading,
Loosing my career and house was at stake and out of sheer desperation and my wife buying my first pack on my credit card which I could not afford, I tried what Dr Wallach advocated despite my disbelief and to my surprize I was slowly restored with almost complete health in 3-4 months. I could do things again that I could do when I was about 30yrs of age. What an eye opener this was. Good night sleep every night again, no numb wrists and hands, could work hard physically like a man again, self esteem suffered from this, No more reading glasses, no joint pain, hair going dark again,no heat stress, no severely cracked heels, could walk up stairs again, could squat and get up again by myself. The only side-efffects was the detoxification that went on. Bowel movements were disgusting and flatulence. Flatulence abated after a few months. Colon cleanse and what they called repair pains. It was all worth the restored health. Why hadn’t this come thru the normal medical chanels.
My wife suffered from low blood pressure all her life, lower bad back pain, hemorhoids, dizziness, irratable bowel syndrome, carpal tunnel, cancer of the cervix 3 times in 10 years, liver or age spots, gall bladder ready for removal, hysterectomy was on the cards, and she double dosed on the chelated selenium part especially, and she too saw all her ailments disappear gradualy one by one in about 3-4 months. Still remember her saying too me,gleefully “this stuff really works”. The side-effect was those repair pains, which gradually went away, and after taking the 90 essential nutrients for about 3 weeks, she broke out in red spots from her head to her toes for about 2.5 weeks. She was told this was a fatty liver cleansing itself out and to perservere and it too gradually diasppeared and she too enjoyed restored health. The discomfort of the detoxification was worth the result. I know many people with the same testimony of restored health. Told this story to numberless people and am amazed at the disbelief. They get this glazed far away look in their eyes as I speak to them about this natural animal medicine. They just don’t believe this crazy story. Some fella’s start howling like a dog or start scratching themselves for flee’s like a dog in derison.. Then I remember how skeptical I too was once! People seem to think the local doctor is some sort of a all knowing medical demi-god. If the doctors all lived healthily to 100 years of age, then I’d listen to every word they’d say. Do some research and find out the average age of a doctor when they pass away into the hereafter. The result you will find is very interesting.
I have only touched the tip of the iceberg about Dr Joel Wallach’s veterinary medicine and there is much more to said about this subject. The causes of these 400 diseases is surprising. What is on the disease list is surprising also. Our low mineral hydroponic farming and depleted farm soils are major causes of sicknesses. Yes they fertilize, but not comprehensively. The medical profession doesn’t seem to have clue about this. Dr Joel Wallach is also usually ridiculed by alopathic medico’s and called a lot of names that you can’t say in mixed company but I know who’s telling the truth. Its dificult to not sound like a crachpot. I thank him for persistence in getting the message to the plebisites, as the established medical profession will not tell you a thing about this life saving information. In fact anybody that promotes alternative medicine is not allowed to make claims or say the word “cure”, “heal”, even though it is exactly what it does. It’s absolutely criminal and fraudulent to suppress legitimate medical information to the people because of vested business interests. Someone has to standup and say something  when the establishment is wrong about too much.  Regards Peter Sen nesp50@yahoo.com.au Aug 2008

How to Cope with an Anxious Animal

Understandably, anxiety in pets can be very upsetting for an owner. However, it is worth bearing in mind that many animals will notice their human companions’ stress. Therefore, it is fundamental for owners to attempt to reduce their own anxiety, particularly when they are with a highly-strung pet.

Many owners will immediately recognize the symptoms of anxiety. However, in some instances, stress behavior can easily be mistaken for simple bad behavior, such as making a mess on the floor, chewing furnishings or being excessively noisy.

Why is my Pet Anxious?

Anxiety in animals can be caused by several factors. Unfortunately, some animals seem to be pre-stressed. In some species of animal, and some breeds, anxiety is particularly prevalent, but there are, of course, exceptions to the rule. Therefore, you cannot necessarily take your animal’s general temperament as an indicator of its predisposition to stress.

The majority of cases of stress in household pets are caused by changes to its lifestyle or home. In other words, moving house, a new baby, a new pet or any similar alteration can result in an anxious animal.

Additionally, pets, particularly dogs, cats and birds, can become very anxious when left for several hours at a time. Therefore, it is strongly advised that all potential animal owners assess the suitability of their lifestyles with animal ownership. If you are away from home for the majority of the day, then you may wish to consider a pet that is less demanding of your time.

Home Alone

It is impractical to assume that all animals will be with their owners for every minute of every day. Therefore, like Macaulay Culkin, there are times when every animal must be left at home on its own.

Fortunately, there are ways to ease an animal’s separation anxiety. Firstly, many experts advocate leaving your animal with a chew toy or something similar to occupy your pet’s time while you are away. You may also find it beneficial to provide your pet with a treat when you return.

With a new pet, or one that is particularly nervous when left, it may be helpful to train your animal by leaving him, or her, for brief (5-10 minutes) periods. If your pet has not destroyed any furniture in this time, offer lots of affection. By gradually increasing the time your animal is left, he, or she, should realize that, however long you are gone, you will eventually return.

How to Overcome Changes

If your pet has recently undergone a drastic change, such as the ones mentioned above, this is a likely cause of anxiety. To aid a pet’s adjustment process, it is wise to provide him, or her, with attention and affection. Moreover, it is often beneficial to establish a routine for your pet’s life. If your animal eats, walks and has quality time with you at approximately the same time each day, he, or she, should begin to feel more comfortable and reassured.

If Symptoms Persist…

In most cases, especially when anxiety is caused by a change or grief, a pet will readjust in a few days or weeks. However, if your pet has severe anxiety, you will need to seek the assistance of a vet.

Your vet may be able to prescribe a medication, which will help to ease your animal’s nerves. Alternatively, if you do not approve of medication, there are numerous herbal and holistic remedies that are available. A veterinarian will be able to advise you as to the options that are available for your pet.

When trying to help an anxious animal, it is vital that an owner approach the problem with patience and a calm demeanor. Remember, that in many cases your animal will take its cues from you. Therefore, the more understanding you are the more successfully you will help your animal overcome its anxiety.

Animal Hospitals Nyon Area

When we speak of a veterinarian approaching a dogs illnesses holistically, we dont necessarily mean that the veterinarian is capable of treating any part of that dog. Most any animal doctor can claim that. Rather, we mean that the veterinarian chooses to treat the entire dog at once, instead of treating only the part of the body that is exhibiting the dogs symptoms. Any living thing is a sum of its parts. Your dogs body would not operate efficiently, or operate at all, without even one of those parts. Therefore, an understanding that all mental and physical functions are interconnected is essential in holistic veterinary care. www.squidoo.com

Great Purchase Recommendations For an Animal Lover

The perfect pet lover present speaks to the recipient’s love of their animal, but is also fun and thoughtful. If you’re trying to drum up gift ideas for a favorite pet lover, keep reading.

A Biscuit and Treat Basket

Pet lovers just love to please their animals, so why not give them a gift they can share with their furry friends. Stuff a basket with lots of yummy dog or kitty treats and tie it up with a bow. It’s simple and cheap, but also original and thoughtful.

Alternatively, you can even bake your own dog or cat treats right in your kitchen. Your friend will love your homemade efforts and, hopefully, so will their animal. Search online for organic dog or cat treat recipes to find the perfect one.

Pet Toys

The best pet lover gift is the one that keeps on giving – a cat or dog toy means your friend can play with their pet for months to come. So, pick up a new fetch ball or cat toy for their collection.

Pet Wear

If your pet lover enjoys showing off their animal, consider having a T-shirt, hat or sweatshirt imprinted with a photograph of their beloved pet. Alternatively, you can buy a shirt with an imprinted image of their favorite breed or animal.

Pet Illustrations

Having a professional illustration or painting made of your friend’s pet is a beautiful gift that they can enjoy for years. If you can, take a picture of their pet so you can provide the artist with a likeness. With this gift idea, be prepared to spend a little extra – most artists charge between $100 and $700.

If you’re not ready to spend hundreds on a professionally illustrated pet portrait, try simply framing a photo of your friend’s pet. Pick a special frame and have it engraved with their pet’s name to add a little bit extra.

A Humane Society or Animal Charity Donation

A true pet lover would appreciate a donation made in their name to a respected animal charity or local shelter. You can make donations to the Humane Society of the United States right from their website, and any gifts over $5 will automatically receive a free gift greeting card. Gifts over $25 will automatically trigger a free subscription to their magazine.

Pet Grooming

If you’ve ever had to pay for a visit at the groomer’s, then you know what a valuable and thoughtful pet lover gift this one is. Start your planning by asking your gift recipient who they use for grooming. Then go there to pick up a gift certificate. Your animal-loving friend will appreciate this present, especially when it’s time to pay the bill.

Many people may feel a little awkward about purchasing a gift for a pet. Even if you do, you can be sure the pet’s owner will appreciate your thougtfulness. So don’t hold back, and make the splurge for something the animal will enjoy and that will enhance your friendship with its owner.

How to Find the Right Cat For You at an Animal Shelter

Picking out a cat at an animal shelter can be likened to picking out cat food at a pet store – it should be done carefully knowing as much about the animal (or product) as is possible. If you are seriously contemplating adopting a cat at an animal shelter, than you may want to take a few handy pointers with you that can save you some hassle and help you find the cat of your dreams.

1. Do some research about cat breeds.

You needn’t read tons of history about each bread; instead, know that certain cats like Persians are more suited to be lap cats, while the American Short Hair may be more independent and active. This will help pinpoint what types of cats may fit your lifestyle best.

2. Decide if you prefer short hair over long hair.

People tend to get all excited about a cat until they finally realize the hair issue – “Oh my god, the cat has white long hair and it’ll get all over my black corduroy sofa.” Decide if shedding is a big deal for you – if it is, go short hair or find a cat that best matches your decor, OR perhaps buy a gold fish instead.

3. Consider the first impression you get from a cat.

Everyone needs some time to warm up to strangers – cats are no different. But the first impression you get from cats, is typically the same reliable first impression you get from people. If a cat is antsy and tries to strike or bite you when you meet it, most likely it will react that same way with your visitors and family. Look for a personality that will gel with your family members and any other pets.

4. Talk to the people at the shelter.

If you want to find a particular type of personality in a pet, rather than a type of breed, which is easier to spot, speak with the people who know them best – the handlers at the shelter. They can tell you who is friendly, who likes to be pet, who isn’t picky about their cat food, and who won’t eat anything but one kind of brand name food. All in all, I do suggest that you choose a truly premium cat food. A holistic, premium grade food can make a big difference overall.

5. Spend ample time with the cat before you adopt it.

Shelters encourage people who are contemplating adoption to come and spend time at the shelter, after the cats have had their cat food of course, to “feel out” various animals, in order to sense if both they and their potential new pet have the makings of a lasting and mutual bond. It makes only good common sense to take advantage of this opportunity in order to gauge which might be the right pet for you.

6. Know the shelter’s policies in case you and your cat do not work out.

If per chance, the bond between you and your new pet do not adequately form, OR your pet begins to exhibit traits, an illness, or other concerning behaviors, you should know what your options are with the shelter. Typically, shelters will allow you to return the pet with no questions asked. Even if you’re fairly sure you’ve met your bosom buddy, be sure to know the policies just in case. You just never know.

Key Components of Animal Healing

How many times in interactions with our animals do we forget to invite them to be part of the equation, doing things to them, and not with them? This change alone can manifest many positive results by changing their feelings of being powerless to those of feeling empowered.

For many years prior to the age of present day medicine and its accessability to the mass population, we relied more on ourselves for our healing. Over time we came to believe that through traditional medicine, the doctor or veterinarian was all powerful in making us or our animal well. The age of addressing the symptom, and not the cause, became the norm. A prescription was written and off we went to await the outcome, we believed healing was in the hands of someone else.

Many years ago my horse became very ill from a tick born disease and endured procedures to save her life. At the time I just held her in my heart and attempted to console her. Fear, submission, and loss had found a home, replacing self trust.

I was very grateful to all the wonderful people who helped her. Yet a key component to healing remained illusive to me. It wasn’t until some time later that the answer became apparent. This Morgan had lost belief in her self. It took time for me to understand what was missing. I needed to change my perspective.

Our animals respond to all the vibrations of the body. Man in his evolution narrowed to believe that the vibration of the vocal chords was the primary means of communication, animals never embraced this concept. They never veered from using the whole of their being to give and receive information.

In modern day veterinary practice most often a diagnosis is made and the care giver embraces it. After many weeks of my horse being ill, I was told her days of being ridden were over. She had sustained permanent damage to some of her organs and was not expected to recover further, this was now her life. Traditional Medicine could do no more. The Mighty Morgan’s return to health is a story of its own, but after including her in her own healing, she went on to take second place in three 25 mile endurance rides.

When a dire prognosis is given, we feel sadness and brace against what is believed to be the inevitable. Our animals may not interpret speech as we do, but they hear and feel the vibration of hopelessness. After hearing a diagnosis of cancer for my canine companion I began to add that information to what I thought and felt about her. I now gave off a vibration she began to embrace. In my quest to find what was missing I found a holistic veterinarian who said, “stop thinking of your dog as having cancer, she is more than that, and besides you’re shortening her days.” That was a moment of revelation for me. As a healer I was caught up in doing the healing, or so I thought. After his statement it became apparent to me that if I opened to shifting how I viewed her cancer I was no longer giving off a “good bye it’s all over” energy. When I began to be only half the equation in her healing that was the first of many shifts for both of us. Moxie began to improve and we went on living together and loving each other for four more years.

Expanding the way in which we feel and understand what is going on for our animals can greatly influence the thoughts we hold to support them in their life. When we include the knowledge that the body knows how to be a part of healing itself, we take back a component of our power. When we offer that understanding to our animal, we place awareness in a supportive role.

Self empowerement and perspective are key parts in healing of the self.
